If you have always been an enthusiast or a fan of the Defender, then you will be happy to know that the 2020 Land Rover Defender will come back to North America.
The Defender stopped being sold in the US back in 1997 since the sales the model was getting weren’t good enough for the automaker. However, many years have gone by and Land Rover is bringing the new 2020 Land Rover Defender back to North America.
The last Defender generation was discontinued back in 2016. However, it is worth to note that it had been on the market since 1983 almost without any changes.
Let’s check out what you can expect from the 2020 Land Rover Defender.
2020 Land Rover Defender Release Date

Land Rover has already confirmed that the 2020 Land Rover Defender will arrive in the United States in 2020. However, before, the 2020 Land Rover Defender should be debut in one of the main Auto Shows during 2019. It can happen in the Detroit Auto Show, in the Chicago Auto Show, in the New York Auto Show, or even in the Geneva Auto Show.
2020 Land Rover Defender Price

While Land Rover has been very straight-forward about the release date, they haven’t disclosed the price of the new 2020 Land Rover Defender.
2020 Land Rover Defender Redesign and Changes

As you can imagine, we will see a completely new 2020 Land Rover Defender. After all, from 1983 a lot has changed in the SUV market and the 2020 Land Rover Defender sure doesn’t want to stay behind.
Looking at the exterior of the 2020 Land Rover Defender, we can see some cues from the modern Range Rover and Land Rover models. Nevertheless, there are other details that are exclusive to the 2020 Land Rover Defender. Just take the headlights, for example.
According to Jaguar’s Land Rover’s chief marketing officer Felix Bräutigam, “The new Defender will not simply be a copy-cat, something retro. It will be something that moves the game on for Land Rover.”
Besides the launch of the 2020 Land Rover Defender basic model, Land Rover is also planning on introducing a variety of bodystyles and shapes. Again, according to Felix Bräutigam, “One of the exciting things for us is that we are not launching a car, we are launching a family of cars.”

2020 Land Rover Defender Specs

While we don’t have any official information about what you can find under the hood of the 2020 Land Rover Defender, the market is full of rumors. According to most of these rumors, the 2020 Land Rover Defender base model should come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is available as either diesel or gas. Included in the range should also be the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that is now being used in the Discovery.
Both engines should have the same transmission included – the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case.
While there aren’t many rumors about the possibility of getting a 2020 Land Rover Defender hybrid or all-electric, there are some pointing into this direction. If Land Rover follows this path, they can easily borrow the technology from the JLR’s electric I-Pace, plug-in Range Rover and plug-in Range Rover Sport.

In what concerns the interior of the new 2020 Land Rover Defender, there aren’t a lot of images available. In our opinion, Land Rover is still thinking about how they will have the cabin of the new 2020 Land Rover Defender.
